How to Edit Your Templates in Canva

This page will show you exactly how to open, edit, customize, and export the templates included in your Creator Kits.

Whether you're a beginner or an experienced Canva user, this guide makes everything simple, clear, and stress-free.

🌿 1. What You Need Before You Start

All Christian Content Creator templates are designed for:

✔ Free Canva accounts

✔ Canva Pro accounts

✔ Web or mobile use

If a Canva Pro element appears:

Canva will show a tiny crown icon.

You can either replace the element or keep and pay to use it individually — it’s totally up to you.

Most of my templates use only free elements, so this won’t happen often.

🌿 2. How to Open Your Templates

Upon successful checkout, you'll be prompted to download the file immediately. You will also receive an email with this information. Inside your download PDF, you’ll see one or more buttons or links:

👉 “Click to open template”

Here’s what happens next:

1. Click the link

2. A new tab opens in Canva

3. Click “Use template”

4. A copy is added to your Canva account

5. Begin editing!

You never edit the original — your copy is yours forever.

🌿 3. How to Customize Your Templates

Every element in your template is fully editable.

You can customize:

Text

Fonts

Colors

Photos

Backgrounds

Shapes

Layouts

Graphics

Scripture references

Branding (logo, brand colors, brand fonts)

You can also remove, edit, alter, & modify:

Any section you don’t want

Any devotional you don’t need

Any page or graphic

Any text

Any design element

Want to keep it simple?

You can also use everything exactly as-is.

Just add your name and branding, then download to your computer!

🌿 4. How to Edit Text

To edit text:

1. Click the text box

2. Type your own wording

3. Adjust font, size, spacing, or alignment

Tips:

→ Keep devotional paragraphs readable (12-16 pt)

→ Use headings for structure

→ Keep consistent spacing for a polished look

🌿 5. How to Replace Photos or Graphics

If your template includes images:

1. Click the image

2. Press “Delete” OR drag a new one from the left sidebar

3. Drag a replacement photo into the empty frame

You can upload your own images or use Canva’s free ones. We also like the beautiful free images found on Unsplash and RawPixel.

🌿 6. How to Duplicate, Move, or Delete Pages

Use the page thumbnails below your design:

Duplicate → click the two-square icon

Delete → click the trash icon

Reorder → drag pages up, down, or sideways

This is especially helpful for:

✔ Adding more devotional pages

✔ Creating longer journals

✔ Expanding mini magazines

✔ Reducing 8 pages to 4, or vice versa

🌿 7. How to Export Your Finished Product

When your design is ready:

1. Click Share (top right)

2. Click Download

3. Choose your format ↴

PDF Print → for printables, eBooks, journals, KDP-ready pages

PNG → for Instagram, Pinterest, graphics

JPG → for blog posts or PDFs you want smaller

MP4 → for video-based templates

4. Download to your computer

5. Upload or publish anywhere you want!

🌿 8. Troubleshooting

My fonts look different.

The font used in the template may be a Canva Pro font.

Easy Fix: Just choose a new one in the sidebar.

A yellow triangle error popped up.

This usually means an element is missing.

Easy Fix: Refresh Canva or replace it.

My PDF looks blurry.

Easy Fix: Be sure to export as PDF Print. Flatten the file if desired.

A photo has a crown icon.

This is a Canva Pro image.

Easy Fix: You can replace it with a free one. Or purchase it when you are ready to download the file.

My link isn’t opening.

You can:

✔ Sell anything you create

✔ Use as-is or customize

✔ Publish as eBooks, devotionals, journals, or studies

✔ Use in your business, ministry, or church

✔ Use for client projects or memberships

You cannot:

✘ Resell templates

✘ Share editable files

✘ Sell my Canva links

✘ Upload templates to online marketplaces as templates
